How Manchester City could line up against Tottenham Hotspur

Sports Mole looks at How Manchester City could line up for their Premier League clash with Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday evening.

Manchester City will aspire to extend their winning streak across all competitions to 16 matches when they play host to Tottenham Hotspur at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday evening.

A 3-1 victory at Swansea City in the FA Cup saw them break the all-time English record for consecutive wins by a top-flight club, and their most recent Premier League outing saw them crush reigning champions Liverpool 4-1 at Anfield.

With a game in hand over the teams around them, Pep Guardiola's side currently sit five points clear atop the rankings, and they would extend their lead over eighth-placed Tottenham to 17 should they avenge November's defeat in the capital.

Here, Sports Mole looks at how City could line up for the contest.

As well as the absent trio of Sergio Aguero, Kevin De Bruyne and Nathan Ake, Guardiola has three more concerns to work around ahead of a challenging run of February fixtures.

Ruben Dias came down with a fever before the trip to Swansea and remains doubtful heading into this one, so Aymeric Laporte could be handed another start in defence alongside the returning John Stones, with Eric Garcia set to drop out.

Rodri came off with a knock at the Liberty Stadium and Fernandinho missed out entirely in the FA Cup, but Guardiola has expressed optimism over the former's availability for the visit of Tottenham, and he will be desperate to have his compatriot fit and raring to go for the weekend.

Should Rodri and Fernandinho both be ruled out of this one, Ilkay Gundogan's goal-laden performances may come to an end if he is forced to play in the defensive midfield role, while Bernardo Silva is a shoo-in with De Bruyne absent.

Kyle Walker's fortuitous goal against Swansea may not be enough to see him keep his place over the impressive Joao Cancelo in defence, while Ederson and Oleksandr Zinchenko are both in line to replace Zack Steffen and Benjamin Mendy respectively.

Pep Guardiola admitted that Phil Foden struggled as a false nine against Liverpool, but the 20-year-old's impact from out wide was evident as he struck the goal of the game in the second half, so he could line up from the left-hand side on Saturday.

The youngster is likely to be supported by Raheem Sterling through the middle and Riyad Mahrez on the opposite flank, although Guardiola could place his faith in Gabriel Jesus after singing his praises on Wednesday night.
