Tottenham Hotspur fall to defeat against MLS All-Stars

Goals from Kaka and David Villa condemn Tottenham Hotspur to defeat against the MLS All-Stars.

Tottenham Hotspur have lost their penultimate pre-season clash as they went down 2-1 to the MLS All-Stars on Wednesday night.

The All-Stars had the first chance of the game as a long ball forward saw Clint Dempsey get in behind the Spurs defence before he cut the ball back for Graham Zusi, who placed an effort just wide.

Harry Kane went close at the other end as he tried to divert Moussa Dembele's deflected shot into the net, but Nick Rimando kept it out.

However, he was made to pay for that miss as Nacer Chadli was penalised for handball in the penalty box and Kaka confidently struck the ball into the bottom corner.

Kane wasted another chance to score just 60 seconds later as he shot straight at Rimando from close range, but MLS All-Stars quickly doubled their lead.

A cross from the right found Kaka at the back post and his cross was prodded in by David Villa from a few yards out.

Spurs responded before half time as Kane powered a shot into the top corner from the edge of the box, but wasted a golden chance to equalise in the second period as Chadli dragged an effort wide from a good position.

The winger went close again minutes later as he darted down the left, cut back onto his right foot but bent his shot just wide.

Fabian Castillo then almost put the game to bed as he was played through on goal by Kei Kamara, but his chipped shot was cleared off the line by Kieran Trippier.

Spurs continued to press forward in search of a late leveller, but Shaquile Coulthirst wasted a fine chance when he was presented with time and space as he blazed the ball over the bar.

Jozy Altidore almost added a third for the All-Stars in the final minute, but he put a header wide from close range.
