Tottenham's £26m record signing Roberto Soldado wants to fire his new club into the Champions League, where he thinks they belong.

Record Tottenham Hotspur signing Roberto Soldado thinks that his new club belong in the Champions League and wants to score the goals that will take them there this season.

The 28-year-old striker completed his transfer from Valencia on Monday for a reported £26m fee, a figure that surpasses that paid by Spurs for the services of Brazilian midfielder Paulinho earlier this summer.

Tottenham have narrowly missed out on securing Champions League qualification in the last two years, but Soldado is hoping that he can make the difference this campaign.

"I'm absolutely honoured to be at this club, to wear the shirt that has so much history. I'm hoping that I can score lots of goals to repay the club's kindness in signing me," he told the club's official website.

"Spurs is a great club and a club that deserves to be in the Champions League. I know it's a hard league and we have to work and play to that level to get there and I will do my best for the team.

"I've joined a great club with a lot of great players. As a group, including the new players, we're looking to improve and our objective is to get Spurs to where we belong. I've come here as a striker to score goals. I always try to achieve more goals in the next season, so that will be my aim, to score as many goals as I can for Spurs next season."

The Spanish international scored 24 La Liga goals for Valencia last season.
