Tottenham Hotspur head coach Tim Sherwood has admitted an admiration for Joleon Lescott, but refused to be drawn on whether the defender is a transfer target.
The Manchester City star has apparently been told that he can leave the club on loan in January, and Spurs are believed to be among a number of teams interested in taking him on a deal until the end of the season.
With Jan Vertonghen injured and Younes Kaboul a long-term fitness concern, Lescott could provide centre-back cover and competition, but Sherwood was evasive when asked about his potential arrival.
He told reporters: "[Lescott] is a good player and there are lot of good players at different clubs, but he is with Man City at the moment so we can't comment on that."
Sherwood, who is unbeaten in his four Premier League games as Spurs boss, has insisted that he will only add to his squad in the New Year if a player that can improve his first XI becomes available.
