Mauricio Pochettino: 'Tottenham Hotspur boosted by European win'

Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino hails the significance of his side's 3-1 win over Borussia Dortmund, which he hopes is a springboard to push on at Wembley.

Mauricio Pochettino has confessed that beating Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League was 'about more than just three points' for Tottenham Hotspur, as they were able to put their Wembley hoodoo to one side.

The Lilywhites headed into the match at their temporary home on Wednesday night with a terrible record, winning just one of their previous 11 matches there in all competitions.

A Son Heung-min strike and Harry Kane's double gave Spurs a much-needed 3-1 victory at the national stadium, however, which Pochettino is hoping will act as a springboard to push on ahead of the visit of Swansea City this weekend.

"I am so happy in the way that we played," he told reporters. "The performance maybe wasn't our best performance but it was very solid and you need to show that solidity and performance when you play at the top level because the Champions League demands [that] you need to play and to be solid.

"I think it's clear - it's so important for us. It will help us to build our confidence and trust, playing there at Wembley. We must feel that is our home. I think that victories are so important. I told you after the [Dortmund] game that it means more than three points to try to stop a little of the negativity about Wembley.

"It was the perception but, for us, it was never negative. [We] think very positive things. I think it will help us in the future. It must help."

Spurs earned a record 14th straight home league win in a single season when overcoming Manchester United 2-1 in their final match at White Hart Lane in May.
