Roberto Martinez: 'Everton should have been awarded a penalty'

Roberto Martinez reveals his anger after seeing Michael Oliver deny Everton what he believes was a clear penalty in the 2-1 loss to Tottenham Hotspur.

Everton manager Roberto Martinez has revealed his frustration after his side were denied a late penalty in the 2-1 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane.

The Toffees felt they should have had the opportunity to snatch a late point when Federico Fazio blocked Romelu Lukaku's header with his hand, and Martinez was quick to place the blame on Michael Oliver for missing what the Spaniard believes was a clear penalty.

"The arm was not in a natural position, and you feel it's a day that none of the breaks you need at times went in our favour to get a positive result," the Everton boss told reporters. "I thought the performance was good enough.

"It's a split decision and you understand that the referee needs to be in the perfect position to spot that. But clearly when you see that Romelu's got a header and the ball just stops, obviously there's been contact.

"It should have been spotted because he should have a clear view of where the contact was."

Everton remain 10th in the Premier League following the loss in North London.
