Glenn Hoddle: 'Tottenham Hotspur wasted Gareth Bale money'

Glenn Hoddle believes that Tottenham Hotspur spent the money received for Gareth Bale last summer on the "wrong" type of players.

Former Tottenham Hotspur manager Glenn Hoddle believes that the club did not make the most of the £85m received for selling Gareth Bale last summer.

The North London outfit are said to have spent a total of around £100m on seven new players at the end of last season, none of whom have been able to make a significant impact at the club.

"Tottenham spent £110m replacing Gareth Bale and Tom Huddlestone with a deluge of new signings in the summer," Hoddle wrote in a column for Bleacher Report.

"The club have bought the wrong type of players, proving that throwing money at new signings is not always the answer. There needs to be a better strategy going forward to provide more stability."

The players were bought under Andre Villas-Boas, who was sacked in December and replaced by current head coach Tim Sherwood.
