Glenn Hoddle backs Mauricio Pochettino for Tottenham Hotspur

Glenn Hoddle backs Mauricio Pochettino to become the next manager of Tottenham Hotspur.

Former Tottenham Hotspur boss Glenn Hoddle has backed Mauricio Pochettino to become the next manager of the club.

The current Southampton coach is among the leading candidates to replace Tim Sherwood, who was sacked on Tuesday after a five-month spell in charge.

Pochettino guided the Saints to an eighth-placed finish in the Premier League table following his first full season in English football.

Hoddle, who boasts a 14-year association with Spurs as both a player and a manager, believes that the Argentine is the right man to get the best out of the squad at White Hart Lane.

"I think Pochettino is a super young manager," he told talkSPORT. "He has done a brilliant job at Southampton and I think he would be a very good acquisition for Tottenham.

"I've been very impressed with the way he's had Southampton playing this year and I think, with the squad at Tottenham, he could do real wonders there."

Current Ajax coach Frank de Boer is also understood to be in contention for the job.
