Dermot Gallagher: 'Dele Alli dived against Swansea City'

Former Premier League referee Dermot Gallagher says that Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Dele Alli dived in order to win a penalty against Swansea City.

Former Premier League referee Dermot Gallagher has said that Swansea City defender Kyle Naughton did nothing wrong in the incident with Dele Alli which led to a penalty to Tottenham Hotspur.

With the game at 0-0, Alli appeared to exaggerate his fall in the penalty area but after taking time to assess the incident, the referee awarded Spurs a spot kick, which was converted by Harry Kane.

The North London outfit went on to win the match by a 5-0 scoreline, but Gallagher has defended Naughton by describing Alli's fall as a "dive".

Gallagher told Sky Sports News: "Dive. I don't often use that word because I don't like saying it unless I am absolutely sure but that is not a foul.

"At best, I would say that Dele Alli has initiated contact but for me, Naughton does nothing wrong. His feet are planted, he does nothing wrong whatsoever.

"It is hard for the referee but his feet are planted. He has made no attempt whatsoever to make a challenge. It's not a foul."

Spurs moved closer to the top four in the table as a result of the win, while Swansea now sit at the bottom of the standings.
