Tottenham Hotspur defender Michael Dawson says that he is ready to reclaim his place in the starting XI.

Tottenham Hotspur's Michael Dawson has insisted that he is happy at White Hart Lane and ready to fight for his place in the first team.

The England defender was expected to leave the club over the summer after being told that he does not feature in manager Andre Villas-Boas's long-term plans.

Dawson was close to completing a £9m transfer to Queens Park Rangers last month, but the move broke down when he failed to agree personal terms.

Following the news that Younes Kaboul will be sidelined for four months through injury, Dawson is determined to re-establish himself in the starting 11.

"I wanted to stay and fight for my place, as simple as that," he told the club's official website.

"Everyone knows it, the manager knows it, I've been at Tottenham for seven-and-a-half years, it's where I love playing my football and I want to be back playing."

Spurs are in Premier League action this Sunday when they take on Reading away from home.
