Tottenham Hotspur manager Andre Villas-Boas has insisted that his side deserved to win after they beat Reading 3-1 at the Madejski Stadium.

Jermain Defoe scored twice to give the Portuguese coach his first victory in charge of the North London club.

"It was a well-deserved win," Villas-Boas told BBC Sport. "Everyone performed to their top level and it is a win that will lift us up for the season.
