Spurs got off to the perfect start as Christian Eriksen capitalised on a failed clearance to calmly slot the ball home and put the visitors a goal up inside the first five minutes.

The Dane came close to making it 2-0 minutes later but his free kick was deflected just wide of the left-hand post.

However, Tottenham's lead lasted only nine minutes, as Guillaume Gillet levelled the scores with his effort drilled into the bottom corner.

Erik Lamela had the ball in the back of the net just before the break but was ruled out for offside, after Jan Vertonghen's pass came a fraction too late.

The hosts came out in the second half revitalised, pressing and pressuring Mauricio Pochettino's side into making mistakes.

Harry Kane was sent on to give the visitors more of an attacking threat but the Englishman failed to convert his one-on-one chance, with Silvio Proto making an important save to keep it 1-1.

Stefano Okaka looked menacing alongside Imoh Ezekiel, who was later substituted off for Frank Acheampong midway through the second 45 minutes.

The Ghanaian winger made an quick impact 10 minutes after his introduction, after he was played in behind the Spurs defence to square the ball for Okaka, who finished under the presence of Vertonghen.

The goal was Okaka's seventh in his last 11 appearances and his fifth strike in his last five games for the home side.

The hosts had the chance to make it three when Acheamprong continued to make life difficult for the Spurs backline, putting in a dangerous cross which was deflected into the path of Dennis Praet, who forced Hugo Lloris into a fine save.

However, Spurs failed to break through the stubborn Anderlecht back four, giving the home side all three points at the final whistle.
