Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino bemoans 'laughable' stoppages

Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino says that the floodlight failure at Besiktas was damaging to the reputation of the Europa League.

Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has described the floodlight failure incidents during his side's 1-0 defeat at Besiktas as "laughable".

The Europa League fixture was twice halted due to technical issues in the stadium, and the Spurs boss believes that the gaffes were damaging to the integrity of the competition.

"We had a chat with the referee and you need to accept the situation," BBC Sport quotes him as saying.

"It's frustrating if that happens, it was laughable. It's not good for reputation of the competition."

A second-half strike from Cenk Tosun was enough to put Spurs to the sword, but both sides have progressed to the knockout phase of the competition, with the Premier League outfit finishing as Group C runners-up.
