Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp has said that Jermain Defoe has a "good chance" of being called up to Fabio Capello's Euro 2012 squad after an impressive display against Newcastle yesterday (Sunday).
The striker scored one minute after coming off the bench in the 67th minute of the match.
With Wayne Rooney banned for England's group stage matches of the tournament, Redknapp believes that Defoe's abilities should be taken into consideration.
"It was a great strike from Jermain," Redknapp said. "It's what he can do and I suppose with everything that has happened he does have a good chance for England.
"But as long as he keeps scoring for us, I'll be delighted.
"People talk about his finish but if I was a genius perhaps I would have had him on from the start."
Defoe's last England call-up was as an unused substitute against Wales in March.
