Sporting Gijon have breathed fresh life into their fight for La Liga survival after a late goal saw them claim a 3-2 victory over Levante.

It was the visitors who took the lead after 16 minutes courtesy of Valdo, who headed home from Javi Venta's cross.

Their lead was short-lived and Gijon were level six minutes later when Oscar Trejo latched on to David Barral's through ball to tuck home the equaliser.

The teams went in level at half time but Levante were back in front after 63 minutes.

Valdo turned provider this time for Arouna Kone, who beat Juan Pablo Colinas with a fierce 12-yard strike.

Alberto Ramos's 30-yard screamer levelled matters 11 minutes from time before Gaston Sangoy secured a valuable three points for the home side in the 84th minute.

The results is a blow to Levante's Champions League hopes and leaves them two points adrift of fourth-placed Malaga.

Gijon meanwhile cut the gap on Villarreal to four points.
