Southampton want Kieran Trippier to replace Nathaniel Clyne?

Southampton view Burnley's Kieran Trippier as an ideal replacement for apparent Manchester United target Nathaniel Clyne, according to reports.

Ronald Koeman will attempt to lure Burnley defender Kieran Trippier to Southampton if Nathaniel Clyne leaves St Mary's Stadium this summer, according to reports.

The 24-year-old won plaudits for his performances in his debut season in the Premier League, despite Burnley being relegated.

With Clyne, 24, seemingly edging closer towards a move to Manchester United, Koeman will activate Trippier's release clause of £3.5, reports the Daily Mail.

However, Southampton will face reportedly competition for Trippier's signature from Stoke City and Watford.
