Southampton coach Mauricio Pochettino has admitted that he wants Jason Puncheon to sign a new contract with the club.

The 26-year-old's current deal with the Premier League side expires at the end of the season.

Pochettino told reporters: "Puncheon is a player I am counting on and he is a player that has certain qualities and skills that are good for the team so, yes, I'd like him to stay."

Puncheon, who joined the Saints from Plymouth Argyle in 2010, has scored six goals in 25 appearances this season.
