Ronald Koeman: 'Southampton were not perfect'

Southampton manager Ronald Koeman plays down his side's 4-0 win against Newcastle United by insisting that the Saints still have room for improvement.

Southampton manager Ronald Koeman has played down his side's empathic 4-0 defeat of Newcastle United, claiming that their performance "wasn't perfect".

Two goals from Graziano Pelle and later strikes from Jack Cork and Morgan Schneiderlin gave the Saints their second Premier League win this season, but Koeman was nevertheless critical of his side.

He told reporters: "It wasn't perfect because we made some mistakes in the first half.

"We had a fantastic first goal. We controlled it totally. After 30 minutes, we didn't press like we did before. Our goalkeeper Fraser Forster did a great job on two occasions.

"After the third goal, Newcastle went down in a mental way. It was a good performance, everything is going well."

Southampton currently sit fourth in the Premier League table with seven points from four games.
