Sheffield Wednesday trialist Dejan Kelhar has been offered a short-term deal with the Championship club.
The Slovenian defender, 30, has featured in a number of pre-season friendlies for the Owls this summer following his departure from Red Star Belgrade.
Wednesday boss Stuart Gray is now hopeful that Kelhar will sign the contract that has been put in front of him.
"We are offering Dejan a short-term contract and hopefully he will be putting pen to paper for us," he is quoted as saying by Sky Sports News. "So suddenly I have got some competition.
"Nothing has been finalised, he is mulling it over at the moment. He's been with the group a good few weeks, he's fitted in well and he's done well."
Wednesday begin the new Championship season with a trip to Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday.
