Sheffield Wednesday to appoint Carlos Carvalhal as new manager?

Sheffield Wednesday will appoint former Sporting Lisbon and Besiktas boss Carlos Carvalhal as their new head coach, according to a report.

Sheffield Wednesday are reportedly on the verge of appointing Carlos Carvalhal as their new head coach.

The Championship side are looking for a new boss after sacking Stuart Gray on Thursday.

Carvalhal, who has previously managed Sporting Lisbon, Braga and Besiktas, is expected to succeed Gray at Hillsborough.

The Portuguese coach has been out of management for three years after leaving Istanbul BB in 2012.

He enjoyed some success whilst managing in his homeland, most notably guiding third-tier Leixoes to the final of the Portuguese Cup in 2002, where they lost to Sporting, and Setubal to Portuguese League Cup success five years later.

According to The Mirror, Wednesday owner Dejphon Chansiri has identified Carvalhal as the man to replace Gray.

The 49-year-old will become the first non-British manager in Wednesday's history.
