Sheffield United boss Nigel Clough has insisted that he will not buy players "for the sake of it" during the January transfer window.
The Blades, who are currently in 18th place in the League One table, are yet to do any business in the market this month.
Despite admitting that he wants to bring up to three new players to Bramall Lane, Clough does not want to rush into any transfers.
"There have been no breakthroughs, just one or two enquiries at this stage, but there has been some encouragement," Sky Sports News quotes him as saying.
"It is early days yet, but we want two or three in. The main factor for us that the players are better or different to what we have. We won't bring in players just for the sake of it."
United return to League One action on Saturday when they make the trip to Notts County.
