Scunthorpe United have confirmed that defender Tom Newey will leave the club when his contract expires later this month.
Manager Brian Laws says that the arrival of Andy Dawson, who signed from Hull City on Thursday, means that he is unable to offer the 30-year-old a new deal.
"There is always a downside," Laws told the club's official website. "Tom is a terrific lad, but unfortunately we couldn't offer him a deal.
"We want to wish him well. He was fantastic for us last year and did everything possible to try and earn a contract."
Newey, who joined Scunthorpe from Rotherham United last summer, made 49 first-team appearances for the Glanford Park club.
