League Two roundup: Scunthorpe United grab vital win

Scunthorpe United and Torquay United grab vital wins at both ends of the table, while Bristol Rovers fall into relegation danger following a defeat against Rochdale.

Scunthorpe United have maintained their pursuit to become League Two champions with a 1-0 win over Oxford United this afternoon, courtesy of a first-half goal from Matthew Sparrow.

United dominated the game and were unfortunate not to increase their goal difference heading into their final few games, with Sparrow earning three points having slotted home following Terry Hawkridge's pass after 15 minutes.

Earlier in the day, Rochdale also maintained their bid for automatic promotion, though they had to come from a goal down to beat Bristol Rovers 2-1 away from home - a result which leaves the hosts in relegation danger.

Rovers took the lead after Kaid Mohamed fired home early in the first half, however Dale secured the win with goals just after the break from Joe Bunney and Matthew Lund.

Chesterfield saw that nothing much changed at the top of the table as they secured three points against Dagenham & Redbridge with a 1-0 victory, leaving them second in the table on 78 points.

Down at the bottom, Torquay United grabbed three vital points, which could potentially save them from relegation, as they came from behind to beat local rivals Exeter 2-1 away from home.

Wycombe Wanderers kept the Gulls' faint hopes of survival alive, along with the likes of Northampton Town, after they were beaten 1-0 away from home at Fleetwood Town, meaning that the gap between the bottom-placed side and those riding just above the relegation zone is now just five points.
