The Scottish Football Association announce that Gordon Strachan has agreed to become the country's new manager.

Gordon Strachan has been named the new manager of the Scottish national team.

The 55-year-old has filled the void that has been left by Craig Levein, who was relieved of his duties back in November.

"I'm very proud of myself and my family are proud of me becoming the Scotland manager. It shows how important the job is. It's a great day and 40 years in the making," he told reporters.

Strachan went on to reveal that he was keen to pay the fans back for the way that they have supported their nation over the last few years.

"I want to progress with the squad and I want them to give something back to the country. We want [the fans] to have to turn up at a major competition," he added.

The Scot has been out of work since he left Championship side Middlesbrough in October 2010.
