Christoph Metzelder: 'I will leave Schalke next summer'

Christoph Metzelder says that he will leave Schalke at the end of the current season but has yet to decide which club to join.

German defender Christoph Metzelder has revealed that he will leave Schalke at the end of this season.

The 31-year-old's current contract runs out next summer and he admits that there is little chance of him being offered a new deal by the Royal Blues.

"I assume that I am leaving Schalke next summer," he told Bild. "That is my plan.

"It's really your duty when you see young talents knocking on the door.

"It is not clear [where I will be playing next season]. It will depend on what options I will have at the time."

Metzelder joined Schalke from Real Madrid in 2010.
