Real Sociedad's Carlos Martinez to miss rest of season

Real Sociedad confirm that Carlos Martinez will miss the rest of the season after suffering knee ligament damage at the weekend.

Real Sociedad defender Carlos Martinez will miss the remainder of the 2016-17 campaign after tearing his knee ligaments in Saturday's 2-0 win over Granada.

The 30-year-old pulled up one hour into the La Liga contest and Sociedad have since confirmed that the right-back suffered ACL damage, which will rule him out for the rest of the season.

Martinez had to wait until the middle of October to make his first league start of the season after struggling with a hamstring problem, but will now not be seen in a Sociedad shirt until 2017.

Martinez, who is fast closing on 200 league appearances for his Basque club, came through the youth system at Sociedad before making his first-team debut in 2007.
