Sergio Ramos vows to 'silence critics'

Spain defender Sergio Ramos vows to 'silence his critics' after conceding his fourth penalty of the season against Italy on Thursday night.

Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos has vowed to 'silence his critics' after conceding another penalty in Spain's 1-1 draw with Italy in Turin.

In 11 games for club and country this season, Ramos has given away four penalties, the latest of which came during Thursday's 2018 World Cup qualifier with Italy, which allowed the hosts to claim a point in Turin.

The 30-year-old, however, has said that he is all too familiar with criticism and has promised to have the last laugh.

"In the end they will be silenced, as they have been for many years. At the end of the day, mistakes can happen to everyone," Ramos told reporters.

"I hope that those who want have a go at me enjoy it now but in the end they will be silenced, as they have been for many years. They've torn strips off me. But I did not get too high with the praise, and the criticism will not destroy me either.

"I saw it as I was going through doping, which always seems to pick me. It was a very strict penalty, one of those that gets whistled just one of 40 times. I don't know, but recently they have my number. I'll have to do something to try and change it. But I'm not going to blame the referee."

Only Iker Casillas (167) has won more caps for Spain than Ramos, who made his 139th appearance for the national team against the Italians.
