Contract renewal talks between Napoli and Spanish midfielder Fabian Ruiz have reportedly broken down.
The 25-year-old sees his current deal expire in the summer of 2023 and is yet to commit his future to the Italian title-chasers.
According to Calcio Mercato, discussions between the player and the club are frozen, with no progress being made towards an extension.
The report continues, saying that the midfielder is said to prefer a return to Spain, with the dream of representing Real Madrid or Barcelona.
Ruiz was linked with a move away from the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona in January, with the Naples outfit reportedly fending off Premier League interest from the likes of Manchester United, Arsenal and Newcastle United.
The Spanish international has featured 20 times for Gli Azzurri in Serie A this season, netting five goals and providing three assists to take his tally to 20 goals and 14 assists in 152 appearances for Napoli since his arrival from Real Betis in 2018.
