Real Madrid are reportedly close to finalising a new long-term contract for midfielder Eduardo Camavinga.

Real Madrid are reportedly on the brink of finalising a new contract for Eduardo Camavinga.

Recognising his potential, Los Blancos moved to sign Camavinga as a teenager for £26m in 2021, hoping that the player would eventually become a mainstay in the middle of the pitch.

Rather than be bedded into life at the Santiago Bernabeu, the 20-year-old has proven to be an invaluable member of the senior ranks, partly owing to his versatility.

The France international has already made a total of 107 appearances for Real in all competitions, with many of his outings coming at left-back as well as in the engine room.

Camavinga was required to play on 59 occasions during 2022-23 and he has already featured in every match in La Liga and the Champions League this time around.

While he is yet to complete 90 minutes in any of those matches, manager Carlo Ancelotti has called upon him in every fixture in what has been a positive start.

As it stands, Camavinga still has just under four years remaining on his contract, leaving each party in a position where they do not necessarily have to instigate a renewal.

However, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Real officials are happy to hand Camavinga fresh terms with a significant pay rise.

The Spanish giants also intend to include a high release clause to ward off any future interest in the player, particularly from the Premier League and Saudi Pro League.

Romano adds that each of Real and Camavinga are enjoying their relationship and were not contemplating ending that at any point for the foreseeable future.

Real recorded a 2-0 victory over Las Palmas on Wednesday night to move back into second place in the La Liga table, Camavinga playing 77 minutes before being replaced by Toni Kroos.

Camavinga has predominantly featured in central midfield this season, particularly in a midfield three or diamond with Ancelotti having to adapt to the squad's issues in attack.

That said, Camavinga may be forced to drop to left-back or centre-back in the short term with Antonio Rudiger and David Alaba both suffering injuries on Wednesday ahead of the top-of-the-table clash with Girona on Saturday.
