Zinedine Zidane refusing to panic after shock Girona defeat

Zinedine Zidane disagrees that Real Madrid "played badly" in their 2-1 defeat to Girona, which leaves his side eight points adrift of Barcelona already.

Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane has insisted that he is "not worried" by the nature of his side's shock 2-1 loss against La Liga minnows Girona.

The defending champions let slip a one-goal lead at the Estadi Municipal de Montilivi in the first competitive meeting between the two sides, leaving them eight points behind league leaders Barcelona.

After seeing Los Blancos drop points on their travels for the first time since February, Zidane is adamant that his side performed well enough to get the job done in Catalonia and is not about to start panicking just yet.

"We lost three points today, unexpectedly, but that does not change anything," he told reporters. "We know we can turn this around, we will have better days, and the other teams will drop points too over the season. We want to win La Liga, it is our day to day. There is still a very long way to go, so I am not worried.

"I do not agree that we played badly today. All the players made an effort. Then there were details, the rival's first goal came from a throw-in and we lost concentration and did not defend well. The second goal, the same, with a rebound. We ran until the end. It was not a lack of effort."

Madrid, who had won six and drawn one of their last seven games in all competitions, return to action on Wednesday evening with a trip to take on Tottenham Hotspur in the Champions League.
