Former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has emerged as the bookmakers' favourite to succeed Zinedine Zidane as Real Madrid head coach.

The 1998 World Cup winner resigned from the Blancos hotseat on Thursday, just days after winning a third consecutive Champions League trophy.

Wenger, meanwhile, stepped down as Gunners boss at the end of the season after an illustrious 22-year tenure at the North London club but insisted that he would not be retiring from football.

The 68-year-old has now been installed as 5/4 favourite by bookies to take over at the Bernabeu, while Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino is narrowly behind at 7/4 odds.

A number of former Real players, including Guti, Santiago Solari and Xabi Alonso, are also in the running alongside more conventional names like Antonio Conte and Maurizio Sarri.

Zidane had been in charge at the Bernabeu since January 2016.
