Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti addresses the injuries that Jude Bellingham and Dani Carvajal picked up against Espanyol.

Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti has revealed that Jude Bellingham was substituted against Espanyol on Saturday due to a shoulder problem, while Dani Carvajal picked up "a knock".

Bellingham was replaced by Antonio Rudiger in the 83rd minute of the 4-1 success over Espanyol, while Carvajal was withdrawn just before the hour, with both players picking up issues.

Ancelotti has said that Bellingham was suffering with a recurrence of a previous shoulder issue, but Carvajal only picked up "a knock" and is therefore not expected to spend any time on the sidelines.

"Bellingham has always played with a shoulder protector. He took it off a month ago because he was fine, but today he has had the problem again," Ancelotti was quoted by AS.

"Tonight he has resolved it very well; we will see how he feels tomorrow. I think it won't be a problem, although he has to take care of himself, obviously.

Bellingham aggravated previous shoulder problem against Espanyol

"Carvajal is injured, but it's just a knock, nothing serious. Jude had a shoulder problem and it resolved well. It doesn't seem like anything particularly worrying."

Real Madrid are yet to provide an official update on either player, but both could be available for the team's next match, which comes against Alaves in La Liga on Tuesday night.

Los Blancos fell behind in the early stages of the second period against Espanyol, but they then scored four times through Carvajal, Rodrygo, Vinicius Junior and Kylian Mbappe to secure all three points.

"We started well and reacted after the 0-1. It was complete. We played better than them, with more rhythm and creating more opportunities. I'm happy," added the manager after the contest at Bernabeu.

Real Madrid are now unbeaten in their last 38 La Liga matches

"We played faster up front, playing faster and making some better moves. We covered the area well. It's true that we don't have a striker who can set the position, but we did get in fantastically from the back.

"Mobility, as always, is an important weapon. The third goal was spectacular, on a fantastic counter-attack. We had many shots on goal and we should be satisfied. Good game.

"At the back, the recovery was good, as was the pressure after losing the ball. We came out with a good dynamic, and little by little we are returning to our best version.

"This season there is one fact: we have only scored one goal in the first half. It is striking. I have spoken to the players before the match, to see if I could change this dynamic. I have not done so, but we have played with more intensity. The 38 games without losing... confirm that this team has done well, is doing well and will do very well."

Real Madrid now have two league games against Alaves and Atletico Madrid before travelling to France to tackle Lille in the Champions League at the start of next month.
