Barcelona midfielder Javier Mascherano says that there are too many El Clasicos each season.

Javier Mascherano has claimed that there are too many clashes between Barcelona and Real Madrid each season.

The two sides played each other four times in 2011 in three separate competitions and the Argentine has insisted that they play "too many times".

"Those four Clasicos will never be forgotten. It was terrible for what happened. We played too many times," Mascherano told El Periodico.

Barcelona and Madrid clash in La Liga at the Nou Camp on Sunday.
