Sir David Murray says that he was "duped" into selling Rangers to Craig Whyte last year.

Sir David Murray has revealed that he was "duped" by Craig Whyte when he agreed to sell Rangers to the Scottish businessman.

Whyte took over the SPL champions last May after Murray sold his majority stake in the Scottish outfit.

The 40-year-old, who was previously disqualified for seven years as a company director, was forced to put the club into administration after his first year at Ibrox.

"I was primarily duped," said Murray. "My advisers were duped, the bank was duped, the shareholders were duped. We've all been duped.

"He met the criteria that were in his offer document. He's quite affable and plausible. I always remember someone said, 'Does it pass the sniff test?' He was Scottish, he wasn't a foreigner, he was supposedly a Rangers supporter, he had the money."

Rangers' administrators confirmed last week that the struggling club managed to come to an agreement over wage cuts with the playing staff, which has prevented any redundancies.
