The hosts began the match at a very fast pace, and almost took the lead through Djibril Cisse in the opening minute.
They had an even better chance three minutes later after John-Arne Riise's poor back-pass found Jamie Mackie, but somehow the QPR man put his shot wide.
Mark Schwarzer was called into action towards the end of the half when Brede Hangeland allowed Cisse space to shoot. The Australian keeper spilled the initial effort, but recovered in time to steal it from the toes of Taarabt.
QPR finally broke the deadlock five minutes into the second half when Alejandro Faurlin's pass found Taarabt, whose scuffed shot deflected off Hangeland on its way in.

Taarabt doubled his side's lead and his personal tally with just over 20 minutes of the match left as he tore his way into the box before firing the ball past Schwarzer with the outside of his boot.
Fulham pulled a goal back in the 89th minute as Mladen Petric curled an effort past Rob Green to set up a nervy final few minutes for the hosts, but they held out to finally end their record winless streak and move off the bottom of the Premier League table.
