Queens Park Rangers hand Marc Bircham new role

Queens Park Rangers appoint Marc Bircham as head coach of their Elite Development Squad.

Queens Park Rangers have appointed Marc Bircham as head coach of their Elite Development Squad.

The 34-year-old had held the role of Youth Development assistant manager at the club, but will now oversee the reserves and the Under-21s alongside Glyn Hodges.

"I am really pleased to take on this role. With the new EPPP system which has been brought in, it is an important part of the club's development," he told the club's official website.

"Having been so heavily involved with the youth set-up I always keep a close eye on how the lads are progressing, so it is great for me to continue working with them.

"Mark Hughes and his coaching staff are renowned for their professionalism so it is brilliant to learn from them."

QPR open their Premier League campaign against Swansea City on Saturday.
