Ian Holloway "proud" of Queens Park Rangers performance

Queens Park Rangers manager Ian Holloway says that he is "proud" of his side following their 2-0 win over beaten playoff finalists Reading on the opening weekend.

Queens Park Rangers manager Ian Holloway has said that he is "proud" of his side after they opened the new Championship season with a 2-0 victory over Reading.

Conor Washington's brace fired the hosts to all three points at Loftus Road to leave them second in the table after the opening Saturday, with last season's beaten playoff finalists getting off to a losing start.

Holloway was particularly pleased with his side's pressing and suggested that he would look to make it a feature of his team throughout the upcoming campaign.

"If you press as well as we're going to press then you're going to look a better team. We got chances off of pressing them. They changed their shape three or four times and we didn't feel we needed to," he told reporters.

"I think we got things at the right time and I did think play would be stopped for the second goal. But we played really well and I'm very proud of the players for the work they put in and proud of our crowd. I'm also delighted for Conor. He's a natural goalscorer and could have had a hatful. I told him if he pressed then he'd get extra chances.

"The pressing of Conor and Jamie Mackie was magnificent. The whole team played really well and worked so hard. Onwards and upwards. When things go wrong I want them to work as hard and be as up for it as they were today."

QPR next host Northampton Town in the League Cup on Tuesday.
