Clint Hill speaks of Wembley pride after helping QPR win promotion

Queens Park Rangers captain Clint Hill speaks of his pride at walking up the Wembley steps after his side beat Derby County 1-0 in today's Championship playoff final.

Queens Park Rangers captain Clint Hill has spoken of his pride at walking up the Wembley steps after his side beat Derby County 1-0 to clinch promotion to the Premier League in today's Championship playoff final.

The 35-year-old, who was sent off in the 2000 League Cup final when playing for Tranmere Rovers, saw his side achieve promotion in dramatic fashion after Bobby Zamora scored in the 90th minute.

Hill told reporters after the game: "I learnt a lot about football at Wembley. I got sent off then and did not get a chance to walk up them steps. I am a very proud captain today.

"When you win it is the best way to be promoted. We have been questioned all year about our mentality, our attitude - called big timers and questioned about whether we wanted it, but I think we showed we do care and do want to win it.

"My contract is up but I got the chance to lift the trophy at Wembley. That is all I care about at the moment. All I know is I am going missing for 48 hours!"

Hill has also played for Oldham Athletic, Stoke City, Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest.
