Queens Park Rangers strip Joey Barton of the club's captaincy and fine him six weeks' wages for his conduct on the final day of the season.

Queens Park Rangers have stripped Joey Barton of the club's captaincy and have fined him six weeks' wages for his conduct on the final day of the Premier League season.

The midfielder clashed with a number of Manchester City players after he was handed his marching orders for striking City centre-forward Carlos Tevez around the head at the Etihad Stadium.

Shortly after the Football Association had handed the 29-year-old a 12-match suspension for his actions that afternoon, QPR confirmed that they would be carrying out their own investigation into the matter.

Following the conclusion of that internal investigation, Barton has revealed that he has accepted their findings.

"My behaviour was wrong and I accept the punishment that has been imposed upon me as a result," he told the club's official website.

"I apologise to the manager, my teammates and of course the QPR fans for my actions. I also apologise to the Manchester City players, staff and supporters."

QPR now also retain the right to cancel the player's contract should he breach their code of discipline again.
