Kylian Mbappe is said to have given up around £70m worth of bonuses owed to him by Paris Saint-Germain in order to return to first-team duties, according to a report.

Kylian Mbappe has reportedly agreed a settlement with his club Paris Saint-Germain to forgo significant bonuses that he is owed in order to return to first-team duties.

The high-profile case which rumbled on throughout the summer saw Mbappe banished from the squad and led to mass speculation about his immediate future.

Mbappe refused to activate the one-year extension in his contract that would have protected his value, with Real Madrid showing heavy interest, so PSG stood firm and removed him from the first team during pre-season.

Along with many other squad members who eventually left the club, Mbappe was paired with a group of players labelled the 'undesirables' as the club hoped to sell multiple star names in an overhaul during the summer window.

The clause in his deal means that Mbappe is the only person or party who can extend his own contract, which expires in the summer of 2024.

Initially, it was believed that the only way the club would allow Mbappe to return to the fold was if he signed a new contract.

However, as Mbappe continued to refuse to sign a new deal, RMC Sport claims the two parties compromised and agreed that £70m worth of bonuses owed to him would be dropped instead, allowing for the player to return.

The club even went as far as signing Mbappe's close friend Ousmane Dembele over the summer, in hope of persuading him to commit to the club for the longer term.

After missing PSG's league opener against Lorient, Luis Enrique quickly reintegrated Mbappe into the squad, and he has been in fine form once again.

In 11 Ligue 1 appearances this season, Mbappe has 13 goals, six clear of Montpellier's Akor Adams in second in the scoring charts.

That means that Mbappe is on course for a sixth successive Golden Boot in Ligue 1, having finished as top marksman in every campaign since moving to PSG permanently from Monaco.

The French World Cup winner is also in fine form for Les Bleus, and scored twice as Didier Deschamps's side beat the Netherlands last month to confirm their place at Euro 2024.
