David Beckham believes that it is the "right time" after he announced his retirement from professional football.

David Beckham has revealed that that he is pleased to be retiring from professional football at the "highest level".

The former England captain announced earlier on Thursday that he is retiring from football, and the midfielder believes that he is bringing his career to an end at the "right time".

In a statement, the 38-year-old said: "I'm thankful to PSG for giving me the opportunity to continue but I feel now is the right time to finish my career, playing at the highest level.

"If you had told me as a young boy, I would have played for and won trophies with my boyhood club Manchester United, proudly captained and played for my country over one hundred times and lined up for some of the biggest clubs in the world, I would have told you it was a fantasy.

"I'm fortunate to have realized those dreams."

Beckham retires having played for Manchester United, Real Madrid, LA Galaxy, AC Milan and Paris Saint-Germain, while also making 115 appearances for England.
