Port Vale manager Micky Adams has hit back at Norman Smurthwaite's claims that a contract has been offered to him, urging the chairman to 'put a contract in front of him, instead of just talking about one'.

Smurthwaite went public earlier today regarding Adams's contract talks, asking the 52-year-old to make a decision on his future by the start of March at the latest.

Speaking to reporters after his team's 3-1 defeat at the hands of Brighton & Hove Albion, the Valiants manager claimed that no such offer has been made 'on paper'.

"Norman has put it out there in the public domain that he has offered me a contract," said Adams. "When I say he has offered me, he has talked to me about a contract. There is nothing on paper in front of me to suggest there is anything there to sign.

"I am grateful that he has offered me one, bearing in mind that he said he wasn't going to bother until the end of the season. He has talked about it now he has to deliver.

"If everything is right I don't see there being a problem, but once again Norman is talking about things instead of doing things."

Adams's current deal expires at the end of the season.
