Cash-strapped Parma slip to Genoa defeat

Cash-strapped Parma slip to a 2-0 defeat to Genoa in Serie A to leave them 10 points adrift of safety in the division.

Cash-strapped Parma slipped to their first defeat in four games as Genoa ran out 2-0 winners in a rescheduled match at Marassi this evening.

The game, which was initially called off after Parma conceded that they couldn't afford to make the trip, was won thanks to goals in each half from Iago Falque and Leonardo Pavoletti.

Falque went close on six minutes when he fired just over after nutmegging a defender in the build-up, but the Spaniard opened the scoring shortly after.

The 25-year-old striker had the simple task of side-footing home on 14 minutes after Marco Boriello did well to find his teammate with a cut-back.

Pavoletti then almost made it 2-0 with an angled drive that whistled past the post before Diego Perotti was denied with a long-range effort by Parma goalkeeper Antonio Mirante.

After the break, the home side were content to soak up the Gialloblu's pressure and hit them on the counter-attack, and the tactic paid dividends on 76 minutes.

A quick break saw Perotti slide the ball through to Pavoletti, and he made no mistake after springing the offside trap.

The defeat leaves rock-bottom Parma 10 points from safety in Serie A, while the home side are now five points off fifth-placed Fiorentina.
