Alberto Malesani becomes the new coach of Palermo following the sacking of Gian Piero Gasperini on Monday.

Serie A side Palermo have confirmed that Alberto Malesani is the new coach, taking over from Gian Piero Gasperini.

Gasperini was sacked yesterday following the 2-1 defeat to Atalanta, which saw them slip to the bottom of the table.

In a statement on their website, the club said: "Palermo has entrusted the leadership of the first team to Alberto Malesani.

"The coach, born in Verona June 5, 1954, is taking his first training session now. He will be presented to the press tomorrow morning at Boccadifalco."

Malesani has coached a string of clubs since 1993, including Fiorentina, Parma and Udinese.
