Debutant Liam Trotter nets injury-time equaliser for Nottingham Forest

Liam Trotter scores in the 95th minute to give Nottingham Forest a 1-1 draw with Ipswich Town.

Nottingham Forest debutant Liam Trotter scored five minutes into injury time against his former side Ipswich Town to ensure the game at the City Ground finished 1-1 this afternoon.

Ryan Mendes was handed the first chance of the game as he was played in on goal by Jonny Williams, but the winger dragged his shot wide of the far post.

Ipswich had Dean Gerken to thank shortly after as the goalkeeper palmed away Trotter's shot before getting to his feet to deny Jamie Ward's follow-up effort.

Gerken was on hand again to thwart Nelson Oliviera after the forward had got in behind the Ipswich defence 10 minutes before the break.

A few minutes after the interval, Ward was presented with a chance to put Forest ahead but blazed his shot over the bar from inside the area.

Dorus de Vries was then on hand to deny Ipswich on two occasions. First, he pushed away a shot by Freddie Sears before making a reaction save to deny David McGoldrick.

Trotter could have netted a debut goal against his former club with 20 minutes remaining, but Christoph Berra flung himself in front of the midfielder's goalbound shot.

The opener came 15 minutes from time as Jonathan Parr guided the ball into the top corner after Kevin Bru's cross was only half-cleared.

McGoldrick and Daryl Murphy both could have wrapped up all three points late on, but their efforts went wide of the target, and their misses proved costly as Trotter slammed the ball home from close range after Gerken could only punch a cross back into the danger zone.
