Steve McClaren will make a decision on his future after the weekend as Nottingham Forest and the manager's representatives begin discussions.

Steve McClaren’s representatives and the Nottingham Forest board have begun talks to discuss the future of the former England manager.

The 50-year-old, who joined Forest as manager in June, has reportedly been questioning his role at the Championship club.

"McClaren's adviser Colin Gordon is believed to be talking to Forest chairman Nigel Doughty and the chief executive Mark Arthur to broker a compromise," Pat Murphy told BBC Radio Five Live.

"He's understood to be dismayed at the lack of activity in the transfer market, having spent less than £2m since taking over in June.

"McClaren warned last weekend that the next few days leading up to the transfer deadline would determine Forest's immediate future and Wednesday passed without even a loan signing.”

The former FC Twente boss has been given a deadline to make a decision on his future.

"Forest are training today, with no first-team game tomorrow, so McClaren has the weekend to decide if he stays at the City Ground,” Murphy added.

Forest made five summer signings during the transfer window, spending a total of £1.8m.
