Norwich City end their Premier League season with a win, beating Aston Villa 2-0.

A dominant first half from Norwich was enough to secure a 2-0 victory over Aston Villa on the final day of the Premier League season at Carrow Road.

The first effort on goal came after three minutes through Stephen Ireland, who got his shot away but it missed the target.

Norwich took the lead on nine minutes through Grant Holt, the striker's 15th goal in the league this season.

The home side looked far better, with Villa offering nothing going forward. Jonny Howson nearly made it two on 11 minutes with a curling effort from distance, but Shay Given was equal to it with a superb save.

On 18 minutes, Simon Lappin was next to have an effort for Norwich, but his shot was off target.

Norwich made it 2-0 on 22 minutes through Simeon Jackson to give the home side a comfortable - and well-deserved - lead.

The home side dominated throughout the first half, with Jackson missing another attempt on goal after 33 minutes.

Norwich seemed far more likely to score, with Villa unable to gain a foothold in the game.

The half-time whistle went with Norwich deservedly leading 2-0.

Villa came out for the second half looking a far better side, with efforts on goal from Ireland and Heskey in the opening stages.

Kyle Naughton had an effort on goal on 60 minutes but the full back saw his shot go wide.

Norwich began to get a grip on the game once more after some pressure from the away side.

Aaron Wilbraham just missed the target on 73 minutes before Villa tried to push forward once more.

A Heskey header on 79 minutes came close but went wide once more as Norwich tried to close the game out.

Villa couldn't quite mount a comeback and Norwich took all three points on the final day to finish the season in 11th place, while Villa finish in 17th.
