Ryan Giggs scores a stoppage-time winner against Norwich City on his 900th appearance for Manchester United.

Ryan Giggs marked his 900th appearance for Manchester United by scoring a stoppage-time winner against Norwich City this afternoon.

Visiting United began the match at Carrow Road in the ascendancy and went close to breaking the deadlock in the second minute. Phil Jones crossed from the right but Giggs was unable to get a clean contact on his volley.

However, United did score the opening goal five minutes later. Nani's cross evaded Javier Hernandez but Paul Scholes was on hand to head into an unguarded net from close range.

Nani and Hernandez then linked soon after for Welbeck to shoot low at goal, but John Ruddy got down to tip the England international's effort wide for a corner.

As the half drew to a close, Norwich began to exert some pressure on the champions. Their best chance fell to skipper Grant Holt, but the striker was unable to keep his header on target.

Despite enjoying large spells in possession, Norwich were restricted to long range efforts at David de Gea's goal during the early part of the second half.

United also looked threatening on the break and almost wrapped up the points 15 minutes from time when Danny Welbeck lifted the ball over Ruddy, but Zak Whitbread got back to clear off the line.

The away side's failure to make the game safe was punished when Holt swiveled inside the area to fire past De Gea with seven minutes remaining.

Giggs, though, intervened in the third minute of stoppage time to convert Ashley Young's cross to hand United all three points.
