Frank de Boer bemoans poor Ajax start

Head coach Frank de Boer blames Ajax's bad start to the match for their failure to defeat FC Twente last night.

Frank de Boer has insisted that his Ajax side would have collected all three points from their trip to FC Twente last night had they made a better start to the encounter at De Grolsch Veste.

The Dutch champions fell 2-0 behind to their hosts, before second-half goals from Viktor Fischer and Nemanja Gudelj secured a 2-2 draw.

Speaking to the club's official website after the final whistle, De Boer conceded that Ajax had been made to pay for the fact that they "started off very sloppily" against the strugglers.

"It felt like we only stepped onto the field after 24 minutes. We started off very sloppily, we weren't sharp. After 24 minutes, we did some good things. We got a grip on the match and from that moment, played more in Twente's half," said the head coach.

"Had we started well, we would have come home with three points. I am convinced of that."

Despite the dropped points, Ajax are top of the Eredivisie standings after five outings.
