David Ginola to stand in FIFA election

Former France international David Ginola confirms that he will stand in the emergency FIFA presidential elections in an attempt to become Sepp Blatter's successor.

David Ginola has announced his intention to stand in the emergency FIFA presidential election following Sepp Blatter's shock resignation this afternoon.

The Frenchman threw his hat in the ring for the initial elections earlier this year before pulling out just two weeks later.

However, Blatter's decision to stand down from his role just four days after ousting Prince Ali to win a fifth term in office means that another election will take place between September 2015 and March 2016, and Ginola has confirmed that he will once again put himself forward as a candidate.

"I think we need to see [about] the future of both [the 2018 and 2022] World Cups," he told LBC.

Prince Ali will also stand again, having received more than 70 votes as the sole challenger to Blatter last week.
